HISTORY

Franklin Basketball was first established in 2009 (Incorporated 2012) when Jamie Reddish and Trent Iuli realised that there was a huge gap in the basketball opportunities provided in the Franklin district. At the time there were no basketball programs or clubs being run and those who wished to play basketball had to seek programs based more than an hours drive away.

They first established a program where players were taught the fundamental basketball skills (now called Hoopsters), as the numbers grew they were able to begin running a league and provide opportunities to play regular games (now called Junior Club League). Since the establishment of the Teamsters league, Franklin Basketball has experienced exponential growth which has led to programs based out of both Pukekohe and Waiuku. Primary/Intermediate player numbers in 2017 reached over 250 players alone, the Secondary Schools league which has reached its capacity the last two years had 33 teams entered during Terms 2 & 3.

Franklin Basketball has been predominately led by Jamie Reddish in the position of General Manager along with other coaches and admin staff.

We now have Joe Reddish as our Director of Basketball. Our club committee supports Joe in the day to day running of the club by ensuring medial tasks are taken care of so that the future direction of the club is his priority.

ABOUT US

Franklin Basketball is a high performing basketball association based in Pukekohe. We cater for the surrounding areas including but not limited to Pukekohe, Waiuku, Tuakau, Onewhero, Karaka, Patumahoe and Pokeno.

Franklin Basketball have been running club based training programs and competitions for the past 10 years for primary and intermediate aged players of all experience levels, as well as, running a secondary schools league for the seven local secondary schools.

Our primary and intermediate aged programs run each term, this way players are able to play basketball all year round in order to become the best player they can be.

During this time the quality of our players and teams have improved to a level where we have been able to compete in representative level competitions and tournaments where our teams hold their own and come away with some great results.

Not only does Franklin Basketball provide coaching for players, but we also have the vision that to be a great basketball association we must also develop referees, coaches and managers. We regularly hold beginner referee courses and ongoing clinics to continually upskill our young referees. This gives them the confidence to be able to referee at representative competitions and in turn improve the quality of our Franklin Basketball leagues and players.

Franklin Basketball aspires to continue its growth in the quantity and quality of players, referees and coaches so that we can continue to be the largest and most successful basketball club in Auckland.
